COME AND WORSHIP JESUS CHRIST

The Book of Esther

Our Bible is divided into two parts namely Old Testament and New Testament. The Old Testament contains 39 books and the New Testament 27 books. All these are written under the inspiration of God (II Tim. 3:16,17; II Pet. 1:20,21). The book of Esther is one of these sixty-six books. Throughout this book the word `God' is not found even once. When this is so, a question might arise in the minds of many as to why should the Holy Spirit give so much importance to the history of a woman. You too might think so. However we can learn several truths from the book of Esther. Let us see two such principal truths.

1.King Ahasuerus wanted a bride. It was decided to gather beautiful young virgins from all the 127 provinces of his kingdom (Est. 1:1) and bring to the women's quarters to be under the custody of Hegai the king's eunuch, the custodian of women. It was written that the woman who pleased the king would become the queen (bride) (Est. 2:3,4). The above account teaches us the following: Our Lord needs a bride. For that, those who are saved (virgins) from all over the world are gathered under the care of the Holy Spirit. Among them, whichever woman, whichever church, is found pleasing to God will be accepted by Him as the bride (Songs 4:7; 6:8-10). We read, "You are all fair, my love, and there is no spot in you". Not all those who are saved are His brides!

2. The book of Esther holds another secret within. That is, Haman obtained the authority to destroy all the people who did not follow the wrong commands of the king. Taking advantage of that authority, Haman had ordered his men and officers throughout the provinces of the kingdom, to destroy the Jewish people, on a day determined by him (Est. 3:7-15). It is written that, knowing the plan of Haman, Esther entered the king's court before she was summoned by him, which was against the law. However she found favor in his sight and obtained a more powerful authority from the king and thereby destroyed Haman and his people (Est. 8:1-17).

What do we learn from this? One may be skeptical about finding any spiritual truth in this and say bluntly that destroying one another and usurping the positions of each other is common in politics. Brother! Sister! You must not forget that we have an enemy. Who is that enemy? He is satan and his hosts. He resides in heavenly realms (Eph. 6:12; Rev. 12:7,8). Are you aware of his authority? He kills and destroys those who sin (John 10:10); he executes judgement on sinners (Hab. 1:12); he intends harm (Zech. 3:1-3); and he accuses (Rev. 12:10). Besides, he prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (I Pet. 5:8).

In the same way Haman appointed a day to destroy the Jews, the people of Mordecai, the devil also has appointed a day (which is fast approaching) to destroy the people who refuse to worship him. Like Haman obtaining authority from the king, satan too has obtained his authority to execute judgment on sinners (Zech.3:1-3; and to kill (John 10:10) from God Himself! We see that though God has cursed satan, the authority given by Him to satan is still in force. We see in the Scriptures that Jesus Christ referred to him as the `prince of this world' (John 14:30) and the Holy Spirit referred him as `the god of this age' (II Cor.4: 4).

Therefore it is good to know from this book of Esther regarding what we must do in these days when the devil, like that Haman, is prowling around like a roaring lion to punish and destroy the people of God by causing them to commit sin (Gen. 3: 4,5; I Chr. 21:1; Luke 22:22; John 13:27) and accuse them (Rev. 12:10; Zech. 3:1-3). Satan soiled the garments of Joshua the High Priest and then stood at his right side to accuse him (Zech.3:1-3). If satan could do harm even to the Chief Priest who stands before the angel of the Lord soiling his garments, imagine your state! Think! Don't be relaxed thinking that the Lord would protect you. What does the Scriptures of the Lord say?

One must think why should the book of Esther be added to the Bible. The entire Jewish community was about to be destroyed. Even Esther who was the bride of the king was about to meet with danger (Est. 7:4). (You may be saved and you may experience communion with God. Nevertheless, don't forget that so long as you are in the flesh, as it is said "the wages of sin is death", the prince of death would follow you!) Therefore Esther was ready to enter the court of the king before summoned by him thus acting against the law, with the determination to obtain deliverance for her people by revoking the law of Haman. Prior to that Esther, her friends and Mordecai fasted and prayed for her so that Esther might find favor in the sight of the king (Est. 4:16).

Child of God! Even in these days, the children of God should protect themselves from the approaching peril. The authorities of satan should be destroyed. A person is yearning to reach the throne of God and obtain the authority to change the rule of satan by overthrowing him and his agents from heavenly realms. He and those with him are fasting and praying these days so that he might find favor in the sight of God. Will you too fast and pray? (Mat. 9:14,15; IIChr. 20:3,4). If you are interested to know the identity of the person, then pray to the Lord and He will show him to you.

There were many Jews. But only Esther went to the court of the king. Likewise, God too has appointed a man to deliver the children of God from sin and to cast down satan and his agents(Is. 46:11; Dan. 12:1; 10:21; Rev. 12:7-9). Read these verses prayerfully. From the saved children of God, a male child should be taken up to God and His throne. He should receive the authority from God to rule the nations with an iron scepter in order to protect the children of God (Rev.12:5; 2:26,27). The book of Esther confirms that many others with the male child too will receive that authority and satan and his agents will be cast down following the war in the heavenly realms (Rev. 12:6).

We read in Rev. 12:10: Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down". When Haman and his followers were destroyed, the authority came to Mordecai. Similarly we learn that only after the prince of this world is cast down, the people of God will receive from God, perfect salvation and the authority to rule the world. You child of God! Read this prayerfully and meditate on this. We see here an event, which should occur before the coming of the Lord. As St.Paul wrote, "the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed" (II Thes. 2:7,8), all these events must happen. Not understanding that the one who restrains antichrist from appearing is satan, some write and preach that it is the Holy Spirit who restrains him and that only after the Holy Spirit takes away His church from the people, antichrist will appear.

This view is not correct. The one who restrains antichrist is satan. "but satan hindered us" (I Thes. 2:18)(NKJV). "I also have been much hindered from coming to you" (Rom. 15:22)(NKJV). "I often planned to come to you but was hindered until now (Rom. 1:13)(NKJV). We read in Daniel 10:12-13 that in the heavenly realms, for 21 days, satan resisted Gabriel who brought message from God.

Therefore understanding from the Scriptures that satan resides in the heavenly realms between heaven and the earth (Rev.12:7,8; Eph. 6:12) and as `the one who holds back is to be taken out of the way' (II Thes. 2:7,8), just as in those days, for the deliverance of Jews, queen Esther entered the court of the king and obtained from him the authority to destroy Haman and his people and bring them honor to her people, one person shall go to the throne of God to receive authority from Him to protect His people from the authority of satan and to bring His people honor. You too may fast and pray for that purpose. The book of Esther tells us that then you too shall see the prosperity of the people of God (Ps. 128:5).

"I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish"(Est. 4:16).
